Lactate Threshold Testing

Lactate Threshold Testing

Profiling blood lactate determines an athlete’s aerobic and anaerobic threshold. Accurately measuring an athlete’s power and heart rate at steady state helps to plan precise training and racing strategies which are important for endurance events. Athletes are provided with accurate power and heart rate zones based on their threshold.

What is this assessment?

Lactate Threshold Testing assesses the body’s ability to perform in the presence of lactic acid. It is a graded exercise test that measures the concentration of blood lactate during different intensities of exercise. We utilise a finger prick and blood lactate analyser to obtain accurate measurements during the test. Understanding your lactate threshold and steady state power output is important because endurance sport is performed at submaximal intensity. Therefore, manipulating training and strategizing racing plans based off lactate threshold becomes very important in maximising performance.

Duration: 1.5 hours

Who is this assessment designed for?

This assessment is designed for cyclists and triathletes looking to pinpoint their aerobic and anaerobic threshold as well as steady state power output. Measuring blood samples helps to accurately determine training zones and pacing strategies for racing.
