In 2008, along with Briony Cole, Melissa won a Silver Medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing for the synchronized 10 metre platform, becoming the youngest Australian ever to win an Olympic medal in diving.

By age 16 Melissa had medalled in every major international diving competition and in 2010 at the Delhi Commonwealth Games, Melissa won a gold medal in the synchronised 10 metre platform and a silver medal in the individual 10 metre platform.

Melissa placed fourth in the 10m platform at the 2012 Olympics and fifth at the 2016 Rio Games.
